Here is the deal I want to take off my 16 inch wheels and put my 14's back on. The car seems alot slower with the 205/50/16's and I cant really see any size 16 being all that great on my car even with a 205/40/16.
So I am looking for a good tire to put on my 14 inch wheels. Before I did all the mods a Mastercraft Avenger 185/60/14 did just fine. Im want something that sticks like glue when dry and not slide in the wet.
Let me know what you all think. later

Summer or All-Seasons? Here are some suggestions:
Summer:
*Yokohama AVS ES100 (available 195/60-14 only, closest to factory size)
*Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position
Sumitomo HTR 200
All Season:
*BFGoodrich Traction T/A
Bridgestone Potenza G 009 (available 195/60-14 only, closest to factory size)
Fuzion HRi (available 195/60-14 only, closest to factory size)
*Dunlop SP Sport A2 Plus
Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S
All asterixed (*) models are AAA rated tires, all others are AA rated. AAA is superior to AA. You can get more info on the above listed tires at www.tirerack.com . They even have tests done on some models, listing max cornering grip, wet/dry braking, etc... I believe all the tires I listed are speed rated to 130mph, but you might want to double check. I'd also look into Toyo's line if i were you, the Proxes 4 is an All Season tire with better grip than most Summer tires, but i dont know what sizes they come in. Hope that helps!

205 is about as wide as u can go on a neon without rubbing on the strut... unless ur goin to cut the shit outta that spring plate... lol and i have recently purchased some new tires and well im running on 205/40/17 now and they stand just as high as my stock alloy wheels which are wrapped in 185/65/14 ( the alloy wheels). i was told that if u got more then 2 sizes bigger then ur stock size u'd hurt performance so 17"s should hurt performance but with 205/40/17's there the same size as the 185/65/14 so i dont really see how its hurting performance lol. ne way if u just got some 40-45 series tires it shouldnt hurt performance 50 is just to big for a aftermarket rim. but its ur call i guess.

They arent aftermarket wheels 95 they are stock neon wheels off of a 04 R/T.
the origional tire on them was a 205/50/16. They fit but very close to the shock.
And I cant see a 45 or a 40 makeing that bigg of a diff. Ill still have more rotational mass at the outer part of the wheel than the 14's.

yea lol they are rather close i agree ( im using 205) but i went with 40 series just so i wouldnt be larger then the stock rims and tires with 3 sizes bigger in rim lol.

I would stick with 185 or 195 series if I were you. 205 is a little wide for the stock rims IMO. (what are they, 5.5?) you can also check all of that out at tirerack as well, under specs. It will tell you how many rotations per mile, overall height, wieght, suggested rim size, etc...
While you're there (tirerack i mean) I would read through the comments/reviews posted by people who have purchased the tires you are considering. When you read them, also look at what vehicle they put them on... reading a review written by someone buying tires for a heavy sedan (such as a BMW, Mercedes, Grand Prix, etc..) probably wont apply to you, since you are putting them on a lightweight FWD car. Hence, look for review written by people with lightweight, FWD cars, LOL.
Hoodoo is right, definetly look into toyo. I have never heard a bad thing about them. Well, i have. Some claim the sidewalls are too soft, but these reviews always came from BMW M3 owners, heavy car with an EXTREMELY taunt suspension... anything short of race rubber will feel "soft" or "squishy". Toyo's have also ALWAYS been praised for their excellent ride quality in respect to their superb handling characteristics. Dont expect more than 20-25k miles out of soft-comp. rubber though... especially the way you drive. :D

I have owned some hot italian sports cars and they wore michelins and pirellis. I will never buy michelins again due to a blowout on week old tyres.
My toyos have been the best trye I have ever driven on. The grip in all conditions is great. On dry bitumen they bite that hard they actually scream and create a howling sound on tight fast corners. This does not say they slip, they dont, they just sound great while gripping. They are a directional type tyre which explains this. I have 195 55 r15s. Toyo Trampio TPGS. Check em out I say!

My 195/60HR14 Yokohama AVS ES100's are just awesome. Very sticky in dry, very stable in wet. Death traps in snow...
With a 42mm offset, I cannot fit my pinky (just over 1/4") between the edge of the tire and the rear lateral link, so there's no way I would go with 205's, even on the stock 40mm offset. (I don't see how a 205 width has anything to do with how close it is to the strut perch, contrary to 95MoparRacer's info... that has to do with tire height, aka "profile").
I have nearly 45k miles on them, including one track day, half and half freeway and spirited street. I have had 9 alignments since I've had them (because I can), and I've only lost 1/16" of tread (max) as of a month ago, so there's plenty left to go... Rear camber is at -0.5 degrees, zero toe. Fronts are at -1.8 degrees, zero toe. No uneven wear.
I could not find another 14" tire that comes close to these for all around, non-winter performance.

I can't complain about my tread wear on the car they always did wear even.
Im going to look for the Yoko tires someplace around here. I have the 205/50/16's on and they are almost too tall. I cant fit my pinky beneath the rear strut perch. As for being to wide I don't know. All that I do know is that they have alot of lean in them in turns they arent as crisp on the road as the 14's. id have to describe them as rideiing more like a Cadi, than a sport coupe. The ride is alot better but Comfort is not my style LOL. Comfort and performacne dont mix here! Thanks for the reply Radar.

forget almost too tall... 205/50-16's ARE too tall... 205/45-16 is the correct size, but i'd still go back to 14's if i were you. Get a second set of rims for winter, and run summer tires in the summer. Its worth it, trust me. And yes, the yoko's are probably the best choice by far of all the tires i listed in my previous post. The only reason i didnt get them myself is because the Kumho's i got are suppossed to be slightly better in the wet. Too bad you cant get ECSTA SPT's in a 14, lol.

I have a set of 14 inch steel rims that are my winter wheels. Soon as I sell the 16's I will get a good set of summer treads put on my 14 inch alloys. 195/60/14 is the size I am looking to get. Thanks for the replies guy's.

I managed to find a very rare set of stock 4-lug 14" steelies (only available on the 1995 Sport sedans) for my snow tires. Those are 185/70R14's off of a Cavalier, which barely rub against the spring perch unless I use a 3mm spacer (spring perch is angled) in the rear. Fronts are fine.
I don't think I could ever go back to "all-seasons"...

Any tire can be an "all season" if you try hard enough lol. I've seen people run summer tires through the winter... they werent very smart people... LOL
