'97 specific or any year SOHC? if you just need an engine, any year SOHC or DOHC engine will work fine, drops right in, bolts right up to the trans. You may need to change the PCM, but theyre only $30-$50 on ebay. speaking of ebay, thats where i'd check for an engine.... or your local junkyard. Best of luck.

it's a 97 neon i thought that i would need the same type year of motor if not what year's would fit so it would be alot easier on me :dunno: . thank's for your help. :D

95-99 sohc motor will fit also and be completely compatible with w/e u already got!

'95-'99 SOHC is a direct swap, '95-'99 DOHC is nearly a direct swap (a few sensors need swapping, slight wiring modification), '00-'02 SOHC will also swap in pretty directly (again, i think a few sensor need swapping, possibly the intake & exhaust manifolds, nothing major to my knowledge). The good thing about all these engines is they will use the stock engine mounts (except possibly the '00-'02 SOHCs) and bolt right up to your transmission. The '03-'05 SOHC engines are regulated by the NGC PCM... You dont want to get into that.
